Specialist Play Therapy for children and young people in Gloucester
I'm Louise Akerman, a qualified and BAPT Registered Play Therapist®. I work with children, young people and families in Gloucester and the surrounding areas, offering individual Play Therapy and support for parents and carers.
Sometimes children find it difficult to put their feelings and experiences into words. Play Therapy offers a way for them to communicate, explore their experiences and work through emotional difficulties at their own pace.
My approach is centred on understanding each child through their play, words, behaviour and relationships. I work collaboratively with families and other professionals, ensuring that the child's voice remains central to their therapy.

Support for children and young people

Sometimes, children communicate through play when words feel difficult. Play offers a natural and meaningful way for children to explore their feelings, make sense of their experiences and understand their relationships, all at their own pace, in a safe and supportive environment.
I support children and young people experiencing anxiety, big emotions, bereavement, family changes, trauma, school-related difficulties or relationship challenges, offering a safe and supportive space to explore their feelings and make sense of their experiences through play.
Children express emotional difficulties in different ways. Some may become anxious or withdrawn, while others may experience overwhelming emotions, changes in behaviour or difficulties with relationships. Play Therapy can help children explore and make sense of these experiences.
